hello + welcome
I hadn’t really figured that I would be starting a blog here + migrating older posts, but I also hadn’t figured I would be in quarantine in 2020, either.
A little backstory: in addition to illustrating I also cook. A lot. I do popups, I research historical food, I draw food, I think about what to put lemons in - you know, all of that, constantly going on in my brain.
Normally, when I’m allowed to go outside and see my friends without killing them with pathogens, I host a monthly full moon dinner with my friends and partners and theme the dishes around what the month’s moon is called. I also co-host a monthly tiki popup at Mutiny Bar. But before that, any time I was stuck in my house a lot, I used to write about historical food, and food in books. It influenced so much of my design and mural work - once you realize you like drawing parsnips, they’ll show up everywhere (and it’s hard not to pick up tips on draftsmanship from some of those impressively clean 1920s children’s book illustrators).

But now I’m stuck here, and I can’t cook for other people, and I’m not doing a lot of presentation work because conferences are canceled, so it seems like an awfully good time to go back to blogging about food in books + posting my sketches.
I’ll be migrating my older posts over here from Tumblr in the next few days, and starting to post new content. Let’s have a virtual dinner together. <3
